A new project: Ima Erklärt (Ima Explains)

Ima Erklärt boosts Jewish visibility in children’s everyday lives. With educational kits on Jewish holidays, we help parents bring Hebrew culture into nurseries and schools – fostering a greater sense of belonging, diversity and mutual understanding.

Ima Erklärt is an initiative by mothers for parents, founded in Berlin in 2025. The idea behind it is this: if children only experience Jewish holidays at home and their culture is not represented in nursery or school, they quietly learn that this part of their identity belongs only in the private sphere. Ima Erklärt aims to change that.

The initiative develops educational kits on Jewish holidays, which parents can use to bring Jewish culture into nursery or the classroom. Each kit contains an age-appropriate explanation of the holiday in German and Hebrew, a hands-on creative activity, and ready-made materials for the teaching staff. Because every holiday has a heart: a core value passed down from generation to generation. It is precisely this that the kits translate into language that children can understand.

In this way, children grow up feeling a sense of belonging and pride in who they are. And their friends learn, along the way, that diversity is something to be taken for granted.
