Hashomer Hatzair is the oldest, still existing Jewish youth movement in the world. Until 1938, Hashomer Hatzair was active in several cities in Germany. In 2022, ten years after the official re-establishment of the youth movement in Berlin, we would like to bring the new generation of our movement in a search for traces and memories of the earlier generation of Hashomer Hatzair. We are looking for 6 VOLUNTARY PROJECT TEAM MEMBERS (ages 18-99) to support our project research in Israel, where many archival sources with materials from former Hashomer Hatzair Germany members may be found. The team, open for Hashomer Hatzair Israel members, students and researchers, activists and whoever has interest and can imagine supporting us, will work in collaboration with the main intergenerational and international team based in Berlin. It is necessary to have language skills in English, Hebrew and/or German.
The Israeli Project Team will reach out to archives, Kibbutzim and institutions prior to the Study Trip to Israel of the Berlin Project Team that takes place on 18.-27. March 2022. The Israeli Project Team will invited to join parts of the program. Together, as part of the history project, we will get in touch with families and descendants of members, collect information, seek personal items such as photographs, letters and diaries from that time. In Israel, we plan public events to meet members and their families, as well as spread the word about our special intergenerational process.
